Here are my tips for organizing your wedding…
1- Start with a plan
First you are going to need lots of lists. Seriously you will need to get your ideas out of your head and on to paper so you can put other people in charge. Draw out your floor plan design and make a couple of copies to show the people helping you and vendors
-Check your times and plan accordingly. Make sure you know when you can get access to your venues and when you have to be out.
-Do mock ups(set up your centerpiece exactly how it will for the wedding) of everything you can or example pics-print them out! Be sure to bring them with you when you are setting up.
-You will need to delegate A LOT! The more you delegate the better. Seriously if you don’t everyone is going to want YOU to answer a bazillion questions while you are getting your hair done on the wedding day.
2-Label Everything
Once you have everything counted out put them in boxes/on hangers and label it! First part of the label should say where it goes (ex. Ceremony, Reception, Head Table…) and the second part should say what it is (ex. Votives, candles…) This will save you from having to open up every box to remember what was in it.
BONUS: Here are some of the most common items you may need for each area
Ceremony- unity candle, arbor or arch, candelabras, vase for bouquet, ring pillow, flower girl basket, isle runner, isle hooks or décor, backdrop, itineraries, signs, ceremony table/barrel, rose petals
Reception décor- cake table décor, cake cutting set, cake topper, signs, guest table, bar décor, backdrops, favors
Guest tables-linen, itinerary or menus, charges, napkins, chair décor, rose petals centerpiece, lighter
Head table-linen- holders/vases for bouquets, décor, backdrop, napkins and champagne glasses
3-Setting up your wedding
-First make sure you have plenty of people to help you. Make sure you have a good mix of people who will decorate and people who can help move large items. You will need muscle but beware they are usually only good for muscle (don’t try to make them decorate)
-Make sure you will have enough time to decorate! If you only get access to your venue the day of I seriously recommend hiring a decorator or day of planner.
-Feed the people helping you! People who are fed will work longer. Prepackaged snacks, sandwiches, water and soda should be good enough.
-Make sure you have EVERYTHING you will need. Zip ties, safety pins, a screw driver and scissors/wire cutters
Final tip! Print off our wedding day quick list and fill it out. You can make several copies or just fill out one and take a picture and send it to everyone in your party and family.
